The Development of Vacuum Flask

Song Dynasty: Vacuum flask first appeared in the Song Dynasty. Zhang Yuqing, a man from the Song Dynasty, once dug out a bottle that looked like it was hundreds of years old, and it could actually store hot water. He didn’t know that the bottle had the function of keeping warm, but he just poured hot water into it. After two days, it was still hot, so he kept it with him for his own use. Later, he accidentally broke the bottle, and then he saw that it was double-layered. However, in the Song Dynasty, the manufacturing process of the “vacuum flask” had been lost, and no one knew when it was popular or who could make it. Even if someone knew the structure, they couldn’t copy it.

In the early 20th century, vacuum flasks made in Japan entered the Chinese market. Citizens were very excited to see such magical things. They called them “magic bottles” and rushed to buy them.

1893: Sir James Dewar, a Scottish physicist at Oxford University, was determined to invent a very (very) insulated container for long-term storage of liquid oxygen. There are three ways for heat to spread: radiation, convection and transfer. Bottles that do not easily transfer heat can prevent heat convection, and double-layer containers enhance (enhance) insulation capacity. However, heat conduction still exists between double-layer containers. Because vacuum does not transfer heat, Dewar evacuated the air between the cup and the cup body to a vacuum state, blocking (cutting off) heat transfer. However, the liquid is still radiating heat outward, so stainless steel with low emissivity is used to make the container, so the hot or cold water in the container will maintain the original temperature for a long time. At this point, the Dewar flask was basically formed. Later, people continued to improve the Dewar flask, but mainly in terms of materials, and its main structure remained basically unchanged.

1950s: Vacuum flask sales reach their peak, with family picnics, seaside hikes, and camping trips all carried along.

What is The Difference between Vacuum Flasks In The Past And Now?

(1) In the past: The design of vacuum flasks was relatively simple, and their functions were relatively single, mainly focusing on improving heat preservation performance.

(2) Today: Vacuum flasks have undergone earth-shaking changes. From material innovation to function expansion, and then to intelligent application, vacuum flasks are gradually moving towards a new stage of development.

In what aspects is the vacuum flask innovative?

(1) Function: Function expansion is another important direction of innovation for vacuum flask. In addition to the basic heat preservation and cold preservation functions, the built-in tea filter allows users to brew tea conveniently, providing users with more convenience.

(2) Intelligence: Intelligent applications have brought a new experience to vacuum flask. By connecting to a mobile phone APP, users can monitor the water temperature and water volume in the kettle in real time, and set personalized heat preservation temperature and reminder functions. Some vacuum also have intelligent sensing technology.

(3) Appearance: Vacuum flasks are also paying more and more attention to fashion and personalization. They are no longer monotonous in shape and color, but incorporate more creative elements. On the basis of practicality and convenience, some design sense is added, making it not only a practical daily necessities, but also a decoration that can show personal taste.

(4) Material: Vacuum flask has also been continuously improved and optimized in terms of material safety and hygiene. The use of environmentally friendly materials such as lead-free and mercury-free, as well as easy-to-clean and disinfect design, allows users to enjoy healthy and safe drinks.

In the future, the innovation and development of vacuum flasks will continue. With the continuous emergence of new materials and technologies, we expect vacuum flasks to achieve greater breakthroughs in thermal insulation performance, functional diversity, intelligence and environmental protection. It will not only be a simple container, but also a smart companion that can meet people’s diverse needs and improve the quality of life.
